People in Son Tra Peninsula recount that, during the reign of King Minh Mang (Nguyen Dynasty, XIX century), there was a statue of Buddha from nowhere drifting on the sand here. Believing it was a good sign, the people set up a temple to worship. The sand bank where the drifting Buddha image was later named Bai But (that is, Buddha land on earth) is also where Ling Ung Pagoda was erected today.
Only 9 km from the Danang city center, Linh Ung Pagoda is currently considered the largest temple in Da Nang city in both of scale and architectural art. The pagoda has a contemporary style, combined with the style of traditional temple in Vietnam, a dragon-shaped roof, solid pillars surrounded by magnificent dragons.
Especially, there is a Buddha Ba statue is considered to be the tallest in Vietnam (67m high, 35m diameter lotus, equivalent to a 30-storey building) which a symbol of Son Tra Peninsula and you can see it when you go for a walk at My Khe beach.
